Single vs. Multiple Dental Implants: Which is Right for You?

Replacing one missing tooth is different from replacing several — and you do not always need one implant per tooth. This guide explains single implants, multiple implants and implant bridges, and how the right approach is chosen.

Single dental implant

For one missing tooth, a single implant with its own crown is usually the best solution. It replaces the tooth without touching the neighbouring teeth (unlike a conventional bridge, which relies on grinding them down). It looks and functions like a natural tooth and preserves the bone in that area.

Multiple missing teeth: you do not need one implant per tooth

When several teeth are missing, you generally do not need an implant for every tooth. Instead, a small number of implants can support a fixed bridge spanning the gap. For example, three or four missing teeth in a row can often be restored with two implants supporting a bridge — which is more efficient and cost-effective than individual implants.

Full arch: All-on-4 and All-on-6

When most or all teeth in a jaw are missing, a whole arch of fixed teeth can be supported on four implants (All-on-4) or six (All-on-6) — not one per tooth. All-on-6 offers more support where bone volume allows; All-on-4 uses angled implants to make the most of available bone and often avoids grafting.

How the right number is decided

The number and position of implants is planned on a 3D CBCT scan, based on how much bone is available, where the gaps are, and the forces of your bite. The aim is to use the right number of implants for a stable, long-lasting result — not the maximum. Surgery is performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, with the restoration designed by specialist prosthodontist Dr Sadık Taki (Ministry of Health specialty registration 61875).

Materials and guarantee

We use internationally recognised implant systems — Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Neodent, Medentika, MegaGen and Osstem — with zirconia or e.max restorations. Implant components carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty (subject to conditions), and bridges and crowns a 5–10 year written guarantee.
