The Dental Implant Procedure: Step-by-Step Explained

Knowing exactly what happens during dental implant treatment removes much of the worry. Here is the procedure, step by step, as carried out at Taki Dent in Antalya.

1. Consultation and 3D planning

We review your medical history, examine your mouth, and take a cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan. This 3D image shows bone volume and the position of nerves and the sinus, so the implant can be planned precisely. We also check whether a natural tooth can be saved instead.

2. Preparation (if needed)

Some cases need a tooth extraction, bone graft or sinus lift first. Where grafting is required, healing before implant placement typically takes 3–4 months.

3. Implant placement

Under local anaesthetic, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon places the titanium implant into the jaw. The procedure is usually more comfortable than patients expect. A healing cap or a temporary tooth is fitted so you are not left with a visible gap, especially at the front.

4. Osseointegration (healing)

Over roughly 3–4 months the implant fuses with the bone. Most people return to normal activity within a day or two of surgery; the waiting period is simply for the bone to bond with the implant.

5. Fitting the crown

Once integrated, an abutment is attached and the final crown — usually zirconia or IPS e.max — is fitted. This is designed and placed by our specialist prosthodontist, Dr Sadık Taki (Ministry of Health specialty registration 61875), and matched to your natural teeth.

How many visits and how long?

Most single implants are completed in two visits: about 3–5 days for the surgical stage and about 5–7 days for the crown stage, a few months apart. In suitable immediate-loading cases, fixed temporary teeth can be placed at the first visit. Your exact schedule is confirmed before you travel.

Materials

We use internationally recognised implant systems — Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Neodent, Medentika, MegaGen and Osstem — with the chosen system stated in your written plan. You receive an implant passport identifying the exact implant used.

Aftercare and guarantee

Eat soft foods and avoid the surgical site for the first days, do not smoke, and keep the area clean. Implant components carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty (subject to conditions); corrective work covered by our written guarantee is free at the clinic.

For indicative costs, see our prices page. This article is general information and does not replace an individual clinical assessment; independent research reports around 90–95% implant survival at 10 years (Howe et al., Journal of Dentistry, 2019).
