Things to Do in Antalya After Dental Treatment

One of the great advantages of choosing Antalya for dental treatment is the city itself. Between appointments — and during recovery days — there is genuinely wonderful things to see, do, and experience. This guide covers the best activities for dental patients at every stage of recovery.

Recovery Day 1–2: Rest and Gentle Activities

Immediately after a surgical procedure (implants, extractions), the first 24–48 hours should be spent resting. But "resting" in Antalya is still enjoyable:

  • Pool or beach lounger: Lara and Konyaaltı beaches have comfortable sun loungers — lying in the sun and sea air is genuinely therapeutic. Avoid swimming in the sea for 48–72 hours after implant surgery.
  • Hotel spa: A gentle massage (avoiding head and jaw area) or sauna session can be wonderfully relaxing on recovery days.
  • Room service and streaming: There is no shame in spending a recovery day in a comfortable 5-star room with a view of the Mediterranean.

Antalya Old Town: Kaleiçi

Kaleiçi (meaning "inside the castle") is Antalya's beautifully preserved Ottoman-era old town, built around the ancient Roman harbour. Wandering its narrow cobbled streets, browsing artisan shops, and sitting at a rooftop cafe overlooking the harbour is a genuinely wonderful experience. Suitable from day 3 onwards for most patients.

Key sights in Kaleiçi:

  • Hadrian's Gate (Üçkapılar) — a stunning 2nd-century Roman triumphal arch
  • Hıdırlık Tower — ancient Roman lighthouse with panoramic harbour views
  • Kesik Minare (Broken Minaret) — Byzantine church converted to mosque
  • The Roman Harbour — now a marina lined with restaurants and cafes

Düden Waterfalls

Just 10 kilometres from the city centre, the Düden Waterfalls are a stunning natural phenomenon — the Upper Falls through a wooded park setting, and the Lower Falls plunging directly into the Mediterranean Sea from a cliff edge. The coastal park walk is gentle and perfect for dental recovery days from day 3 onwards. No strenuous hiking required.

Antalya Museum

One of Turkey's finest archaeological museums, the Antalya Museum houses extraordinary artefacts from the ancient cities of the surrounding region — including spectacular Roman statues from Perge and Aspendos. Fully air-conditioned, making it ideal even on hot days or if you want calm, gentle activity post-treatment.

Aspendos Roman Theatre

Located 47 km east of Antalya, Aspendos houses one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world — built in the 2nd century AD and still in use for opera performances. A half-day trip by taxi or tour bus; the theatre itself requires minimal walking. Most suitable from day 4 onwards.

Eating Out During Recovery

Turkish cuisine is wonderfully suited to dental recovery. In the first few days:

  • Corba (soup): Turkish soups — especially mercimek (lentil) and tarhana — are nutritious and soft
  • Yogurt-based dishes: Cacik, ayran, yogurt-topped dishes are everywhere and ideal for recovery
  • Soft grilled fish: Levrek (sea bass), dorade, and salmon dishes in Antalya's harbour restaurants are excellent and soft enough for day 3+
  • Turkish breakfast (kahvalti): A spread of cheeses, eggs, olives, and bread — plenty of soft options

Avoid köfte, kebabs, and other chewy meats in the first week after surgical procedures. Ask the waiter for softer dishes if needed — Turkish hospitality means staff will happily accommodate.

Beaches

Antalya has two main beach areas accessible to tourists:

  • Lara Beach: Fine sand and clear water, home to the large resort hotels. Safe swimming from day 3 after veneers or non-surgical procedures; day 5+ after implant surgery.
  • Konyaaltı Beach: Pebbly beach closer to the city centre, with a long promenade. The flat walk is perfect for gentle daily exercise during recovery.

Day Trips from Antalya

For patients with a longer stay, day trips to nearby ancient sites are popular and accessible:

  • Perge: 15 km east — well-preserved Roman city with stadium and colonnaded street (30 min taxi)
  • Termessos: 30 km northwest — dramatic mountain ruins of a city that Alexander the Great could not conquer
  • Pamukkale: 3 hours — the famous white travertine terraces and Hierapolis ruins (best for longer stays of 7+ days)
